As a seasoned real estate agent, Tamara entered the business while attending St Mary's University in 1991. She currently Runs Four Companies and does everything from land acquisitions to overseeing construction projects, negotiating contracts, scheduling, and budgeting. A natural communicator, she acquires new customers, manages relationships with suppliers and other stakeholders and oversees all PR, marketing, and advertising. At the same time, she is a full-time agent and holds her Brokers Licence. She believes in continuing education and recently completed the ICD Destination at the Rotman School of Business in Toronto. Tamara feels she has been blessed with the gift of dyslexia – a learning disability that was not diagnosed until she was in university. “I am the one in the room who looks at an issue or problem differently than everyone else.”
Tamara is adept at knowing when to take a risk. “It’s not easy to take risks but, if you do a good assessment and projected timeline, you can come out ahead.” Purchasing land when markets are slow has put Whitestone ahead of the pack when conditions improve.
She is a past President of the Nova Scotia Home Builders Association, which helped her break through the glass ceiling in a male-dominated industry. “I am the only woman at work and on most boards I am involved with.” And honesty is important to her. “Sometimes the easiest road could make you the most money but it might not be the most moral. If it doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t…and it can backfire horribly.”
She has been listed on the PROFIT W100 list of Canada’s Top Women Entrepreneurs Multiple times and in 2013, won the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Award for Sustainability.
She is a mother of two adult children and 3 Fur kids. She feels Living in The Peggys Cove area and waking every morning to the sound and smell of the ocean, is a blessing.
